Volunteer Tour Guides
Volunteers are critical members of the museum staff allowing
us to keep our doors open to the public throughout the week.
Volunteer tour guides may or may not take on all the responsibilities of regular
volunteer docents PLUS will be trained to conduct one or two 1-hour tours per
week during their regularly scheduled 2 or 4 hour shift.
Responsibilities include:
1. Leading guided tours of the museum for the public, reserved groups, and
school children.
2. Welcoming visitors and handling admissions fees/gift shop sales.
3. Communicating historical background of the museum and building to guests.
4. Assist with research, collection maintenance, and special projects.
The museum strives to be open from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Shifts would be scheduled during that time at the volunteer's convenience.
Currently, tours are by reservation only, but we'd trying to create a regular
tour schedule including one weekly evening tour at 5 pm.
Skills
1. Good communication skills and
ability to work well with the public.
2. Interest in collections, history of pharmacy and Louisiana history.
3. Excellent for pre-med and pre-pharmacy students and anyone with an interest
in history.
4. Should be available to schedule the same two or four hour shift per week and
make a three month commitment.
